Should You Take a First Aid Training Class?

Reading Time:
minutes remaining

A person can be involved in an accident or suffer a heart attack, stroke, or some other type of medical emergency anywhere, at any time. Even if someone calls 911 right away, it can take several minutes for an ambulance to arrive. Those minutes can be critical. If family members, friends, or bystanders can provide first aid before an ambulance gets there, it may mean the difference between life and death.

Immediate Care Can Save Lives

If someone has a heart attack, receiving CPR right away can dramatically increase the individual’s odds of surviving. If a person is choking and another individual performs the Heimlich maneuver, that can dislodge the object and allow the victim to breathe. If someone suffers a cut and is bleeding profusely, having another person cover the wound and put pressure on it can control the bleeding and save the patient’s life.

Anyone Can Perform First Aid

People of all ages can learn how to perform basic first aid. Even children can be taught how to provide life-saving care in an emergency. Since it’s impossible to predict when and where a medical emergency might occur, it’s a good idea for businesses, schools, community organizations, and families to offer first aid training and to encourage as many people as possible to sign up.

Organize a First Aid Training Session for Your Community

If you have been thinking about taking a first aid class, there is no time like the present. Look for a training session in your community or organize your own. Chances are, other people you know would also like to learn first aid or brush up on their skills. If you host a first aid training session at your workplace, school, community group, or house of worship, it’s likely to draw a significant number of people.

Schedule a First Aid Class

The more people who know how to perform first aid and CPR, the better. In addition to arranging a class, you should make sure that you have supplies available so people can provide help when necessary.

If you’re in Southern California, UniShield offers a number of training options for your workplace.

Your home, business, or car should have a first aid kit with bandages, gauze, hot and cold packs, pain relievers, and other common supplies. It’s also a good idea for businesses, schools, and community groups to have an automated external defibrillator (AED) on hand in case someone experiences cardiac arrest.

You can purchase all of these products, and a lot more, from 1st Aid Supplies. Place your order today.
