Accidents, heart attacks, and other types of medical emergencies can happen anywhere and at any time. Often, they occur when people are at home with loved ones or having fun with friends. Prompt first aid can save lives.

Adults aren’t the only ones who can provide care in an emergency. Teenagers can and should be certified in first aid.

Why Teens Should Learn First Aid

A teenager who has received first aid training can help someone who experiences a medical emergency. A young person might have to treat a sibling or friend who gets cut while playing in the backyard, chokes while eating, or sprains an ankle while hiking or camping.

If a parent or grandparent experiences cardiac arrest, a teenager who has been certified in CPR can provide care until an ambulance arrives. That might save the adult’s life and increase the odds of a full recovery.

Being certified in first aid can also help teens pursue their goals. A teenager who wants to get a babysitting job and who has received first aid training can put parents at ease. A young person who wants to work at a summer camp might be required to have a first aid certification.

Many teenagers struggle to figure out what to do after they graduate from high school. Selecting a career path can be difficult for young people, especially if they have little or no hands-on experience with a subject. First aid training can introduce youngsters to the medical field. A teen who learns about first aid and CPR might be inspired to pursue a career as a paramedic, EMT, doctor, or nurse.

Give Teens Life-Saving Knowledge and Tools

A medical emergency can occur without warning, and a person who knows how to provide first aid and CPR can save someone’s life. Teenagers can come to the aid of relatives, friends, and even complete strangers. Learning first aid and CPR can also help teenagers find part-time employment and choose a career path to pursue after graduation.

Local organizations provide free or low-cost first aid and CPR classes on a regular basis, but training alone isn’t enough. Bandages, gauze, hot and cold packs, CPR supplies, automated external defibrillators (AEDs), and other essentials need to be readily available so they can be used in an emergency.

1st Aid Supplies sells first aid supplies and cabinet kits that contain these and other items that can be used to treat a wide range of common medical issues.
